André Wendland

Born in Leonberg, Germany, 1995

Lives and works in Karlsruhe, Germany

For the German artist André Wendland, the virtual world and the real world are interconnected and allow him to recreate in a certain way his own world in his studio with an infinity of possibilities. André has worked alongside people with disabilities for a long time and painting is a way for him, if not the way to present his impressions and experiences in a separate environment. Painting is also a way for him to transcribe the virtual world in a more concrete way and to make the visitor want to touch the canvas as if it were a touch screen.

Fascinated by cartoons and animation, Wendland considers his canvas similar to a digital screen, exploring the way images impress upon a viewer. Using his signature thick application of oil paint, he hopes to highlight the boundaries between iconic iconography as it exists it digital and physical spaces.
