Lives and works in Naples, Italy

Mimmo Jodice’s works feature locations in Italy, France, Spain and Greece in an intimate and moving interpretation that draws the eye into a distant past, to classicism and beyond. They take us on a journey to the roots of our ancient civilisation, even to the origins of myth. Jodice brings archaeological fragments, antique skies, faces and bodies existing in the reality of marble and mosaic to life and makes them resonate. At the same time, landscapes filled with the mysterious lights of the Mediterranean appear as though lost in a timeless abstraction. The unity of language that is Mimmo Jodice’s own creates a delicate equilibrium. Playing with the boundaries separating reality and his representation of it, he is able to capture the most profound identities of places and objects with an engagement that is not just aesthetic and cultural, but above all emotional. His landscapes, suspended in time, are marked by their resounding lightness, by their movement intimated by a slight blur, by a visual buzzing that gives volume and substance to the imperceptible ordinary.
